Taking Your Leadership, Team,
and Business To The Next Level

Article written by: Nicole Clifton @ nicoleclifton.com

Businesses and teams that thrive don’t just happen. There is often a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes, and sometimes part of that work is choosing to bring in an outside person to bring objective perspective to help steer companies in the right direction. Options for Senior Living chose to start doing this with Nicole Clifton in the fall of 2017, bringing her in as a Leadership Development Specialist. Many people know that OFSL started out in 2003 run exclusively by the owner Scott Fischer and that over the years, his team has expanded. Particularly in the last few years, their growth has been exponential and therefore the size of the team has grown to meet the need. As the team was growing, what Scott Fischer came to realize is that there were lots of team dynamics emerging that he hadn’t had to worry about when the company was smaller. He realized that in order for OFSL to be the best company it could be, in order for their business to go to the next level, he needed to be willing to invest in developing his employees into the healthiest leaders they could be.

The OptionsFSL Team in Full Bloom!

We are proud to share more this month about OptionsFSL team members, Glenda Redman and Katie Peña !

Thank you for brining your vision and energy to Options!

Glenda Redman

Why did I decide to join Options?

I was fresh out of a divorce and at a serious crossroad in my life.  I was struggling with the direction my career should take and was fortunate enough to meet Scott Fischer.  I knew after our first meeting that this was the sign I was waiting for.  I feel beyond blessed to be on this journey with the Options for Senior Living team.

What is something I would like to learn?

I feel you can never stop gaining and updating knowledge in this industry. The ability to bring the right resources to bear is key to guiding families. The more I can understand about the marketplace and players, the better I can serve. Keeping up with the best ALTCS communities and homes is at the top of my priority list. where do i make the most impact

I believe in working directly with the families I am making a significant impact on the stress and quality of their lives going forward. It is an honor and privilege to do some and my hobbies , family

I am a Texas transplant, but love it here in the desert!. I enjoy running, hiking and exploring our numerous areas. I have two boys, ages 11 and 13 and my time with them is precious.T hey both play baseball and are smart active kids. I am a very proud mother!

My fav non work activity: time anywhere with friends and loved ones

Favorite pizza toppings: pepperoni and jalapeno - super flavorful!

Fav female movie star: Sandra Bullock, I love how she is portrayed in a variety of ways

Fav male movie star: Bradley Cooper ( particularly in A Star is born)

Katie Peña

Why did I decide to join Options?
After my divorce, I was searching for a new career. I wanted something that could fully utilize my skills and gifts, but in a meaningful way. I was referred to Scott through a mutual friend and knew this was a fit as soon as I met him and heard the Options story and how he impacted so many families over the years.

What is something I would like to learn?
I want to learn it all! However, the top 3 things that interest me the most in the senior world are dealing with Dementia/Alzheimer’s, financial planning for elders, and the Medicare/Medicaid healthcare care system. In general, I’d just like to continue to support my loved ones and clients through the aging process with care & compassion. It’s scary and unknown for so many. I want to help them move through this stage in life with ease.

I am a single mom of a VERY active 7 year old boy, so you can often find me at practices & games or attempting to play two hand touch with my son! Wellness has been a big part of my life so fitness & nutrition are also important to me. I am a 5th generation Arizona native, and am fortunate enough to be surrounded by lots of family. Most weekends we like to get out in nature or run off on last minute road trips.

My fav non work activity: Spending time with my son outside

Favorite pizza toppings: Pepperoni, jalapeño & pineapple. Salty, spicy and sweet!

Fav female movie star: Kristen Wiig, shes pure comedy!

Fav male movie star: Anthony Hopkins. Never seen him in a bad role!

The OptionsFSL Team is in FULL Bloom!

LeadingAge report: Nursing home closure wave hitting top-rated facilities

Quality isn’t a deciding factor when a nursing home closes. So suggests a new report that  has found that both high- and low-quality providers are among the more than 550 facilities that have closed since June 2015.

“It is not just low-quality providers that are closing,” said Brendan Flinn, LeadingAge’s director for Medicaid and home- and community-based services policy.

The LeadingAge report, which examined closures of certified nursing homes and what it means for the industry, revealed that a total of 555 U.S. nursing homes have closed between June 2015 and June 2019, which represents about 4% of the total number of facilities in operation.
