As many of you know, April was a big month for me. Stacey and I were officially married just two weeks ago! We've enjoyed planning and preparing for the wedding, and now we are simply enjoying one another as husband and wife. The best part yet!

PASRS had a great month, as well. We welcomed MANY new members and look forward to continuing to build relationships and strengthen our industry.

The Differences in Assisted Living

Blog post

Earlier this month I got to speak for the Sun Health Foundation Community Education Series. We were at the Faith Presbyterian Church in Sun City. The title was the Journey of Coming into Assisted Living. We had a great response from the audience and a number of attendees asked to schedule an appointment with us to discuss their loved one’s needs.

I addressed the differences in the assisted living licenses and how we use a clinical approach to give guidance to those who are in the process of selecting assisted living for a loved one. Most people don't even know the questions to ask about the different levels of licensed assisted living. Unfortunately, many assume all assisted living is the same.

For example, many people confuse "independent living" with assisted living and they have no idea there is no licensing for independent living. If they move a loved one into independent living thinking they will get care there, they can be disappointed at a later time and may likely have another move ahead of them.

There are several levels of care and each home or facility cater to specific levels, but not necessarily all levels. Misunderstandings like this can lead to trouble down the road. We at Options for Senior Living are experts in the area of understanding senior living licensing. The impact of using that information accurately is so vital to helping families choose wisely for their loved one when looking at senior living.

Get in Shape!

A woman on the phone to her friend; I feel like my body has gotten totally out of shape, so I got my doctor’s permission to join a fitness club and start exercising…. I decided to take and aerobics class for seniors. I bent, twisted, gyrated, jumped up and down, and perspired for an hour. But, by the time I got my leotards on, the class was over.

The world will have more people who live to see their 80s or 90s than ever before

The number of people aged 80 years or older will have almost quadrupled between 2000 and 2050 to 395 million. There is no historical precedent for a majority of middle-aged and older adults having living parents, as is already the case today. More children will know their grandparents and even their great-grandparents, especially their great-grandmothers. On average, women live six to eight years longer than men.
