I hope everyone enjoyed their Valentine's Day weekend. Hopefully, you feel the love all year round, but there's nothing wrong with a little extra attention during Cupid's favorite month!

Speaking of extra attention, my fiancé and I are wrapping up the final details of the wedding. Dresses and cake were recently finalized and invites are prepared. I guess that makes it official now! LOL!

Options for Senior Living closed out 2014 strong and we have been off to a great start in 2015. We have some new faces to welcome to our family! Lauren Beals and Dawn Romayo will be joining us in the field. Tammy Crutcher, who has always been the rock of my administrative affairs, has been promoted to Director of Family Services. She will be out in the field more often as a result, so when you see her, Lauren or Dawn, be sure to take a minute to say hello!

As always, I want to thank you for your support. We have new followers on social media, which is nice to see and is helpful as we share information and continue to grow our business. You all play an important role in this.
Tammy Crutcher, Director of Family Services, has been an integral part of OFSL since May 2012 and has helped us evolve into who we are today.

When she is not helping our elder population, Tammy is busy raising four children, ages 1-9. Now you know why she is so good at keeping OFSL on track! While her family keeps her pretty busy, when she does get some time away, it is to enjoy some dinner or a comedy show with her fiance.

It is such a blessing to know Tammy and I am proud to have her on our team!

Our Aging Veterans

Blog post

We recently took on a client that is a United States Veteran.  This man is blind and continues to cook his own meals, although this has become more challenging as he ages. He is very social; he likes to talk; yet he rarely gets out of his apartment.  He and his family reached out to us to help him locate a suitable setting that will allow him to maintain his independence while offering the support in the areas he struggles with most.

This is the beauty of what we do.  We meet people everyday that are at the stage in life where independence is still very much alive, but living alone increases the risk of losing independence altogether.  Preventable injuries are a leading cause of rapid health decline in otherwise stable and independent seniors. Socialization plays a vital role in extending good health, and independence.

We are privileged enough to work with so many communities that cater to the independent lifestyle.  These communities bridge the gaps in independence.  The amenities and services that independent and assisted living communities offer take a load off of our loved ones and allow them the time and energy to enjoy experiences and activities they may have otherwise left in the past.

The desire to remain fully independent is one significant reason seniors stay home alone longer than they should. Another main reason is finances.  I mentioned in a post last week about the benefits available to veterans and their survivors.  Too many families are unaware that these benefits exist and too many veterans are going without the care they need.  VA benefits help cover costs of all levels of care.

We are fortunate to have the
Phoenix Veterans Affairs Health Care System.  This is an organization that is working to provide the care that our vets need and deserve.  Should you have any questions about these benefits or need any assistance with applying, reach out to me.  We are proud of the relationship we have built with our VA, and we are more than happy to get you in touch with the right people.

Old Age

Two old men in a retirement village were sitting in the reading room and one said to the other, ''How do you really feel? I mean, you're 72 years old, how do you honestly feel?''

''Honestly, I feel like a new born baby. I've got no hair, no teeth, and I just wet myself.''
