Scott's Thoughts

Options for Senior Living Founder, Scott Fischer

We’re into this pandemic now a couple of months. I’ve read a lot of commentaries and interpretations of what’s going on in our culture and society. We’ve all done our best to frame it in such a way so that we can make sense out of it. It’s in our human nature to want to define and explain things. You know what? The world doesn’t always answer my questions. For someone like me who is driven and likes to be in charge, learning how to live in the moment and from a perspective that things don’t and won’t always make sense, this is hard. Truly, hard ....

Senior Referral Specialist, Lanie Martin

Lanie is one of our Referral Specialist in the East Valley. She entered the industry due to a personal situation that hit home. Here she shares her story.

Senior Living was an industry that I was completely unaware of until 2016. That’s when my father was diagnosed with Dementia. He had short term memory loss for many years, so we didn’t expect the rapid decline that happened. We were completely taken aback. There was no plan in place for his care. We wanted to find the safest and most loving option for him, but we were so overwhelmed by all the choices. There was no one to turn to and we simply didn’t know what we didn’t know. We made some poor decisions on his behalf. It was a downhill battle from there and he passed shortly there after. It was an incredibly stressful and scary time.
Sadly, not all communities or homes are created equal in Senior Care. All we wanted is for him to receive good care, but unfortunately we didn’t have the guidance to help us find it.

After my father passed, I felt the need to help other families. Nobody should ever have to experience what we went through. I was introduced to a gal through my networking group who worked in senior placement, and I asked if I could shadow her. I quickly realized this was my calling and linked up with Scott & the Options For Senior Living Team. Being a Referral Specialist isn’t just my job, it’s my passion and life’s work.

About Senior Referral Specialist, Tammy Luna.

I first met Tammy Luna In late 2019. I was looking for a group home for my mother of 70 years
old with severe Alzheimer’s. Tammy had been recommended to me by a court fiduciary from a
probate case I was a part of. My initial conversation with Tammy over the phone, was found to be pleasant and beneficial. Even over the phone I could already tell that Tammy had a genuine concern for my mother and her placement in the group home. I could tell even through the conversation that she did have my mother‘s best interest at heart. She asked questions that I had not even thought about, but we’re very important to the situation. She also focused on an area near my home, so that I would be close to my mother once She was placed in the group home. This was appreciated because I wanted to be able to visit my mother regularly. Tammy as very knowledgeable to the entire procedure , and I can tell that moving forward things were going to run smoothly. After our initial conversation I felt a sense of relief that someone was on my side and my mothers side. I felt like Tammy's efforts to find my mother a nice home were genuine. Tammy was also knowledgeable to group home costs and Medicare or insurance coverage questions. Tammy recommended that I tour at least three homes in order to make a solid decision on the best fit for my mother. We visited three homes at a later date and of those three homes I did find a beautiful home for my mother which I am very happy with. I actually couldn’t be more happy with the home, which is a very loving home, not only staff, but also the residents, and residents family. I know if it was left up to me that I would never have found such a beautiful home for my mother to be in. It is nothing like the peace of mind of knowing that my mother is well taken care of and loved. Out of the three homes that I toured with Tammy, either one of them would’ve worked just as well. I appreciate Tammy’s time and effort into finding great choices and options for me, that allowed me to be comfortable with either home I would’ve chose that day. I would highly recommend Tammy Luna’s services with finding placement for any love one that you were considering a group home or nursing home for. She is absolutely great and she really cares!
