Begin your fall-prevention plan with an appointment with your doctor. Medications and health conditions can lead to falls.
-Keep moving
Physical activities can go a long way to preventing falls, they improve strength, balance, coordination and flexibility.
-Wear sensible shoes
High heels, flip flops, slippers can make you slip and stumble.
-Remove home hazards
Remove boxes, cords, newspapers from walkways. Use nonslip mats in your shower and tub. Store everyday necessities within easy reach.
-Light up your living space
Place night lights in bedroom, bathroom and hallways. Place a lamp within reach of your bed for middle-of-the night needs.
-Use assistive devices
If needed or recommended by a doctor consider, hand rails, a raised toilet seat, grab bars, a plastic chair for a shower
