What I Love Best About Being a Certified Placement Expert?

I am helping find the most comfortable environment for each individual to thrive in.

What Made Me Choose This Career Path?

I have been helping people gain strength, independence, and function through my work in Occupational Therapy for many years. Over the years, I have learned that our environment plays a large part in how we live and function.

I want to help find the best environment and support level for each individual to enable them to live their best quality of life possible.

From where I am in Arizona to where my parents are in the Midwest spans 1500 miles. As I continue to meet more people and families, I have learned this is the case for many. Navigating through life as we age is difficult in itself, let alone from a distance. Here are a few things that I have put in place to help keep my parents safe and to know when it is time for me to book a flight or start the search for moving them to a new environment.

1. Get a “home safety” assessment. With a Doctors order, Medicare or the VA will pay for this. Suggestions could be that they remove rugs, put in a railing to the outdoor stairs, get a shower chair, and rearrange daily used kitchenware to the counter or easiest cupboard.

2. Start the tough conversation about the future and get their input on what it looks like to them. Have them identify what signifies that it is time to make a move and how they want to be approached.

3. Hire a housekeeper to help with cleaning and laundry to help limit the need to go up/down the stairs, carry large items, and prevent a fall.

4. Set them up on Zoom. Seeing them on camera, one can pick up on so many details that can be missed on a phone call, ie: Dad needs to wash/comb his hair, Mom has increased swelling in her arm, and facial expressions as they answer questions/speak, etc.

5. Set up a group text with siblings, neighbors or friends, rotate touching base with them daily, and then report back.
