If this is your first time reading about PASRS principles, we’d like to point you to our earlier content on the matter, which you can read here.
To spread awareness around the principles of best practice used by PASRS (The Professional Association of Senior Referral Specialists), we’ll share the five most prominent principles each week.
This week, we’ll explore the fourth principle below.
Best Practice #4: Churning
PASRS Senior Referral Specialists Members will not move or relocate a previously placed client for additional economic gain (known as “churning”). Any issues following a placement of a client or requests to relocate a client must be addressed directly by the Agent with the family and facility. Any relocation must be initiated by the family and/or facility after all parties attempt resolution.
As a concerned adult child looking after a senior parent, navigating the complex and often overwhelming world of senior care can be challenging. There are countless decisions to be made, from choosing a facility to finding the proper care provider, and it’s crucial to work with professionals who have your loved one’s best interests at heart.
That’s why it’s essential to work with senior referral specialists who adhere to strict ethical standards, like the members of PASRS. One of the most critical aspects of ethical senior care is “churning” or moving a previously placed client for additional economic gain.
Churning is a deceptive and unethical practice that can cause significant harm to seniors and their families. When a referral specialist moves a senior from one facility to another, they may be motivated by financial gain rather than the senior’s best interests. This can result in increased stress and confusion for the senior, as well as higher costs and lower quality of care.
Thankfully, PASRS members are committed to ethical practices that prioritize the well-being of seniors and their families. By refusing to engage in churning, these professionals ensure that seniors are placed in facilities that meet their needs and provide the best possible care.
How Can I Protect My Senior?
If you’re concerned about the care of a senior loved one, it’s crucial to work with referral specialists who prioritize ethical practices and transparency. By working with PASRS members, you can be confident that your loved one’s care is in good hands and that their well-being is the top priority.
Remember, any issues following placement or requests to relocate a senior must be addressed directly by the agent with the family and facility. If relocation is necessary, it must be initiated by the family and/or facility after all parties have attempted resolution. This approach ensures that the senior’s needs are always the top priority and that decisions are made with their best interests in mind.
Overall, the ethical practices of PASRS members offer peace of mind to concerned adult children, knowing that your loved one is receiving the best possible care and that their well-being is always the top priority.
